PlanetRubyOnRails Stats

On Feb. 2, PlanetRubyonRails turned 1. So tonight I decided to look back over the stats to see how much it has grown over the last year. Below is a graph from Excel that charts the unique visitors by month.

Some other interesting things that I found out are:

  • Total posts from approved feeds over the last year: 4845
  • Total Number of feeds server: 1,271,461, RSS: 957,090 ATOM: 314,371
  • The largest number of posts was from the RubyOnRails Weblog at 508. Second was Robby Russell at 301.
  • Greater than 90% of the page views are to a feed (rss, atom)
  • NetNewsWire represents 16% of all hits, the other RSS apps are too low to show up or the versions are all over the place.
  • OS X accounts for approximately 25% of all hits, Windows approximately 20%, Linux approximately 18%.

The "hit" numbers are interesting indeed. Being a linux user myself, I'm used to seeing a much lower participation rate for almost any cross platform development framework. I think the infancy of rails and the willingness of Linux users to always try something new or "think outside the box" contributes to high numbers such as these.
Hmmm... the OS platform numbers add up to 63%. Are the other 37% exotica like cell-phone and PDA browsers, or just unknown?
most of them were some type of crawler from one of the online readers, Bloglines, Newsgator, etc. And some were from either Linux or BSD because I recognize the feed reader that they are using as being either Gnome or KDE. I guess some feed reader software doesn't report the OS either. I didn't notice any exotic stuff. Like cellphones or pda. Maybe I'll go back and check again though. I wasn't really looking for it.
thanked post
Obama said "captains of industry" on Wall Street and in Detroit who took advantage of corporate perks while their companiesbenefited from government loans paid for with taxpayers' money, don't have "any perspective on what's happening to ordinary Americans."
good!
